There are hundreds of RVs for sale in California from dealers with used inventory that must be sold. However, the best sticker price might not always be the best "bang for your buck." Before buying a used RV, there are a number of factors to consider to ensure you won't have additional hidden costs and headaches.

• Check for leaks: Motorhomes and travel trailers for sale are usually sitting on a lot for months at a time which can cause hoses and valves to crack. Before buying, make sure you take it to a place where you can hook up to the city water and sewer drain to check for leaks.
• Test the stabilizers: If they don't work, you'll be in for a rude awakening if you're camping near any of California's beautiful beaches where constant wind gusts are a frequent occurrence.
• Test the breaks: It is critical that you understand the condition of the breaks or breaking system. The best way to test the breaks is by hitting the road and driving or towing for a short distance, or having it inspected by a third party. If the seller won't allow you to do this, then just walk away. Break repairs are expensive!
